a few i can think of off the top of my head is always walk from downstream to upstream. Fish are always facing the current and are less likely to see you if you are walking upstream. also always cast upstream.

Carry your fly rod so the tip is pointing behind you, ive seen many people jab the tip of their expensive fly rods into the ground or tree branches and break the tip off when they are walking with their tips forward.

Learn to tie your own flies if you havent already. It can save you a lot of money, especially if you are still learning and break flies off a lot.

Find out via internet//guides/bait shops what is hatching if you arent familiar to the area. It can save a lot of time looking for that right fly because tiny details can make all the difference. one time i was fishing in this mountain stream full of cutthroat trout. i was throwing every fly in my box at them and they wouldnt bite anything. as soon as i put on a tiny black ant fly i caught one almost every cast.
